Black Enterprise Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Summit Report

The world is moving fast everyday with new technological innovations and artistic breakthroughs always around the corner. With the ongoing global pandemic, the George Floyd tragedy and the ever changing corporate landscape, the second edition of the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Virtual Summit took place on the 23rd of June.

With a strong lineup of top-rank executives and thought leaders on board as panelists and guest speakers, Black Enterprise’s DEI Summit aimed to raise discussion and negotiate some long standing solutions in favor of Black representation and participation in the corporate agenda. As per the memo, these were some points of focus of the summit:

How diversity, equity & inclusion can be recognized as a business priority, as bulleted on their report:

• Developing the best approaches to retain Black talent and place them on the management track.

• How Black executives can stop unconscious bias, microaggressions, and other such discriminatory behaviors from derailing careers.

• How Black business leaders must compel corporate America to make good on its racial equity pledges.

• The importance of collective corporate leadership in bringing about lasting social change.

Prominent speakers of the summit included William A. Ampofo II, Vice President, Supply Chain, Boeing Global Services, Sonia Cargan, Senior Vice President, Chief Colleague Inclusion & Diversity Officer, American Express and Carla Harris, Vice Chairman, Managing Director and Senior Client Advisor, Morgan Stanley.  Insightful discussions on how to improve black representation and launch new black talent took place. The round-tables and panels, all part of the summit, left a founding stone for substantial change.
