Khloe Thompson, now 14, founded her very own non-profit organization, Khloe Kares, when she was merely 8 years old. Distraught by the existing inequality in our society, Khloe Kares was founded off the strength of wanting to help people without housing.
While COVID-19 pandemic did not stop her from continuing with her kindness and to the unhoused, it did however prevent her from traveling and going to speaking engagements.
At first Thompson started off by making about 25 bags and filling them with basic necessities such as toothpaste, deodorant, hand sanitizer, etc. She came up with the idea of making the bags while learning to sew from her grandmother and decided to use her new found skill to do good.
She did her best to keep the bags near or on her person so in the case of seeing somebody who needed it, she could give them out. Recently, she and her team started to put-in more COVID specific items to go with the times, a new edition to her care bags being hand-made masks.
Growing up in California, the home of the infamous Skid Row, no doubt there is and has been room and need for her charitable deeds to go around. During the pandemic it has even stretched to her in part being able to help facilitate a community fridge. Community fridges are a resource to help people be able to have access to food and are aligned with her mission.
Khloe is currently homeschooled and has a team of people around her that help continue to do her work. And is very supported by her family as I’ve had the pleasure of speaking with her mother alongside her. She has authored two books, titled Girlblazer and Marisol’s Helping Hand. One of which she completed the publishing process during the earlier portion of the pandemic.
Her biggest motivation is the ability to help people in need and she believes that everyone deserves to have access to basic necessities. Khloe started off small with just an idea to help out one person and now she’s been able to reach masses with her organization and her associations with other organizations and people.
She is a prime example that children need to be seen and heard and given the opportunity to showcase their talents beyond the restrictions of what an adult may think they can or can’t do. Khloe has developed a website with her resources and a way for others to get involved.
Still being a kid and having to deal with school among other things, she speaks of being able to find a balance between Khloe and Khloe Kares. Her balancing act shows she has a good sense of structure and maturity to be able to grow with her organization and any other ventures she chooses to indulge in the future.
