The United States Department of Justice is made up of 40 prominent offices and committees such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Civil Rights Division. Its sole purpose is to enforce the United States law within the country. The president appoints the leaders of the Department of Justice and the senate confirms them into their position. After the November 2020 election and the inauguration of President Biden many officials were appointed and replaced in the Department of Justice. The demographics of the department shifted as well.
The gender composition is mostly male with 32 males and 16 females. There are half the amount of female leaders than there are male leaders.
Of the leaders, 36 are White, 7 are Black or African American, 1 was Hispanic, 1 was Asian and 1 was American Indian. There is significantly more White leaders than those of any other ethnic group.
Even when combined there are many more White leaders than any other group.
As time passes however, there is increasing diversity in the Department of Justice. There are ever growing opportunities for people nationwide regardless of background and elected administration is accepting of diverse leadership so the outlook is bright for 2021.
